Giving back is Deeply Rooted in our Foundation.
A love letter to the humble & hard-working families behind the scene, who usually don’t get the credit or reap the benefits they deserve. Kawi represents a way to give back, to provide opportunity for those who deserve it most, to help provide a fair & well-deserved living for the artesanos who deserve it most! The heartbeat and soul of what makes our culture and Mexico so magical, whose sweat and tears of gratitude go into every drop, trying to make a living as they have been for generations and generations, by doing what they love most… making mezcal.

“Sembrando Vida” (“Seeding Life”)

KAWits lead Maestro Mezcalero, Don Fermin Santiago Velasco, donates his time and puts his cultivating knowledge to use by planting trees, vegetables, and fruits for the community as part of a local Reforestation and Conservation program.

Guelaguetza

Zapotec tradition of GIVING without the expectation of receiving anything in return.

In October 2023, the local middle school of San Baltazar Chichicapam celebrated its 50th anniversary. The town wanted to do something special for the celebration and hire an artist to paint a mural for the school. However, after several attempts, they did not have sufficient funds for the artist’s charges. KAWI founder & artist Jose ‘Pepe’ Lozano, in collaboration with seven other artist friends, surprised the school with a mural in the true spirit of GUELAGUETZA.
